Freeman-Asia Scholarship

PURPOSE
The goal of Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-Asia) is to
increase the number of U.S. undergraduates who study in East Asia.
Funded by the Freeman Foundation and administered by the Institute
of International Education (IIE), the Freeman-Asia scholarship has
been awarded to over 2,500 U.S. undergraduates.
PROGRAM
Freeman-ASIA Award provides need-based funding to assist the
recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related
expenses such as airfare, additional living costs, books, etc.
Three different awards are made depending on length of study: summer
($3,000), semester ($5,000) or the year ($7,000).
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must
be current first year, sophomore or junior students.
Applicants must also have applied or been accepted to either Pepperdine's
Chiang Mai or
Shanghai programs or a study abroad
country-based program. Proof of need-based financial aid is
also required.
SELECTION
According to their website application tips, applicants will be
expected to participate in language study and demonstrate interest
in East Asian Studies in future academic or professional plans.
